In the fifty thousand years since Ryan Hunt was cremated, human history has taken several catastrophic turns. After nuclear annihilation came the volcanoes, and now there’s a plague bearing down on humanity. It’s going to take something big to save them this time.

And they get it, in the form of a resurrected Hunt, who’s been given a second life. His DNA, it turns out, is the key to rescuing the species. But it won’t be as easy as simply swabbing the inside of his mouth.

To survive in this new world, Hunt has to evade the kidnappers who are after him, hop from planet to planet, and even dust off his tux for a date to a ball. Even more challenging, he needs to navigate the waters with adventurous and beautiful scientist Dr. Kat Winslow, whom adventure seems to follow.

With help from a friendly robot named NORA and a newfound sense of daring, Ryan Hunt is ready to take on the future—whatever it brings.

Overall I thought it was a pretty good sci-fi book. It tells a pretty good story and hits some familiar beats without being too derivative, which is tough when there's so much stuff out there. I agree with some of the other reviews in that the background starts slow but the pace (and page flipping) picks up once you get to the heart of the story. Perhaps some of the background timeline could have been interspersed as flashback chapters throughout to break it up a bit - that being said, if you made it through the opening book of GoT you should be easily able to get through a few chapters here.

I liked the characters, especially some of the supporting ones though at times I felt like there was a bit too much of various mythos being thrown at me at once, with at times bordering on ex machina - but overall the connections are set up well and I'm sure will play out more in future books. I also found at times that the dialogue/interactions didn't quite translate well from what they might actually have done in "real life" versus words on the page but again that's a bit more observation on style versus taking away from the story.

So it might not be as polished as one might be accustomed to if you only read major sci-fi writers but in the end the story is good enough for you to want to get to the end and see where it goes in future volumes.

Second Life of Mr Hunt Book 1 Resurrection eBook Gerrit Overeem Reviews

I thought the book was exciting and different from other books. I enjoyed it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Once I got into the meat of the story, I found I couldn't put it down. Definitely recommend this book and am looking forward to the next one!
Excellent sci-fi story. Enjoyable reading with very interesting characters. Loved the creativity in describing how the earth and the galaxy evolved over thousands of years. Looking forward to the next book and finding out what happens to Ryan and Kat.
Thoroughly enjoyed the world and characters in this this book. There's plenty of action and cool inventions.
This book was an ecxcellent read. I could not put it down, wanting to know what was going to happen next.Good story and good characters.I can hardly wait for the next one. From beginning to end,it was a good continuation of events.Never got boring or slow.Good work!
Amazing book for a first-time author!
The dialogue was a little scripted at first; but improved as the book progressed.
I am now very angry as the sequel is not written!
Mr Overeem, repeat to yourself "must write faster."
The Second Life of Mr. Hunt.

I have to start out by saying that I am not a huge sci-fi fan. I always felt that sci-fi was just too far out for me and I couldn't wrap my mind around entire worlds that look nothing like the world I inhabit every day. Well, this book changed my outlook completely. I’m not going to run out and join sci-fi conventions, but I will say my attitude toward sci-fi novels has changed and this book is the reason why.

The first chapter or two set the scene, explaining how the world got to this point and I read along like a good reader, but wasn't really engaged. It’s the backstory to how we got to the current state. Okay, I get why it’s there. However, once chapter three rolled around, I was full-in. Strong character development? Check. Riveting plot? Check. Well-paced storytelling. Triple-check. I was hooked!

I don't want to give away any secrets, but not all is as it seems and you'll have to read the book to figure out who is good, who is bad, and what is really going on. It’s fast-paced and action packed. The best part is that you don’t need a spreadsheet to keep up with the list of characters as in other novels. This is what storytelling is about. An engaging story with just enough in each chapter to pull you through to the next. It's an excellent first novel and I cannot wait to read the next installment to see what happens.
