WHAT THE CRITICS SAY
A Terrific Story About a Young Woman's Search for her Father
“What's really great about 'Beyond Home', apart, that is, from being a terrific story and easy to read, is that it's set in an exotic part of the world that most of us know little about. So, as I follow Eve in her search for the father she never really knew and share fears of kidnapping, corruption and murder I discover something about Myanmar — what used to be Burma. This is really an unputdownable novel.” John Harman, author, ghostwriter, scriptwriter
WHAT THE READERS SAY
You will keep reading this exotic story set in Burma to discover the hidden family secrets. Great characterisation, adventurous plot with the added touch of romance will ensure its success. You must try it!
Great read from a new Australian author!
This is an intriguing book full of family secrets, politics and adventure set in an exotic location. The story follows the central character, Eve, from Perth to Burma in a quest to uncover the mysteries of her father's past. 'Beyond Home' reminded me of a Bryce Courtney novel with its mix of history, travelogue and romance. Well worth a read!
A well-written, carefully composed and intriguing novel. A pleasure to read. Sometimes the reader will feel "predictability" (falling in love with captor, missing sister, long lost mother…) though the whole story and all events are incredible and, well, unpredictable . Does reality surpass fiction or the other way around?
From a loveless life in the Australian suburbs, this discovery of a family scrapbook leads Eve on a journey of adventure into the tropics where she finds her true love and much more. An engrossing tale of surprising connections and double crossings where human spirit is writ large.
INTERVIEW WITH THE AUTHOR, ROBIN BOWER
Q – Where did the inspiration for Eve Robinson in Beyond Home come from?
A – The story and characters are fictional but the seed for the idea germinated from the fact that my father was born in Rangoon (the descendant of a British Baptist missionary). He and his five sisters were brought up in Rangoon in the foothills of the Himalayas. He spent his early life there before the nationwide strikes tore the country apart and the family decided to go to England. It was only a few years later that Japan occupied Burma. By that time he was in boarding school in England.
I created a ‘what if’ scenario around this. What if my father had had another life I didn’t know about?

I didn't get a lot done while I was reading this book. It kept me wondering what would happen next. Some of the questions about characters make me think there should be a book 2.Product details

Beyond Home A daughter journey to Burma in search of her father past edition by Robin Bower Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book so I could give an honest review. This was an OK story about a woman who finds herself only after more than one tragedy in her life. The supporting characters weren't as well developed as the main one, but they did supply some added drama to the over-all picture. The way it's is written, even when the bad things happen, the writer doesn't manage to make you feel sad that it did, I was left feeling "is that all there is?" In other words, I somehow couldn't get emotionally invested in the story or the characters, I read to the end to see how it played out.
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review. Many mysteries to be solved in this story of a young woman's search for the true story of her father's origins and early life. One of the mysteries to be unraveled is the story behind the emotional poverty of the central character's father, and her own bleak and diminished life after her husband leaves her. Pursuing these answers leads Eve, and the reader, to an exotic place, itself full of secrets and political turmoil. We realize Eve is caught up in the center of events she is barely aware of, that put her in danger the closer she gets to the secrets of her family origins. The story is fast paced and intriguing--it is also interesting to watch Eve's personal growth and development, partnered with the changes in her Burmese guide--a man she doesn't know has deep connections to her own story, and whose loyalties lie with those who see her as an enemy. She is in constant danger--but seems only to dimly realize this until it is almost too late. As the story builds to its climax questions are answered in surprising ways. My only quibble with the story is that the revelations about family connections almost seem too wildly coincidental and contrived to be believable/acceptable to the reader. But then again, this is not unusual for this genre.
This novel has everything. Mystery, intrigue, adventure and romance in an exotic location. I highly recommend it.
A beautifully written book which kept me interested and intrigued the whole way through. I thoroughly recommend this lovely book.
... a fast read. I enjoyed the interplay between the characters.
